Looks A lot Like Chaos
What really drives me crazy is at the end of the day, after I have had such good intentions – I have accomplished absolutely nothing! I started to do ‘stuff’, but then there was the phone call. And then there was that show I have been waiting to see for months. And then I had to stop to eat lunch. Then there was… and there was… and then the day was done. Procrastination and time management is a huge impedance to achieving success at anything.
Now this is me! I am upset with myself. I had good intentions but was not able to stay focused. I am pounding myself and feeling very unworthy of anything. I feel like I am incapable of succeeding. I can’t focus. I can’t seem to get motivated to do the things I need to do.
This feeling of under achieving now bleeds off into my daily life. Now I am angry with the people around me. I might even be a bit jealous of others accomplishments. This is a pattern that never leads to anything positive. It is a vicious circle that we get trapped in BUT it is NOT very difficult to end the cycle.
We can make a conscious decision to take action and win this on-going struggle with PROCRASTINATION. Yes, I said it. The dirty word! It is possible to change your actions to be more beneficial to the end goal.
Here Is A List Of Things To Do
- Make a list
- Organize the list
- Check it off as it gets done
- Praise yourself
- Relax at the end of the day!
- Smile because you know you did well
Is it Really That Easy?
Well, if you can convince yourself that you need to follow the list – Yes. If you truly have no ability to get off your butt and do something, maybe it is not simply procrastination. Maybe it is depression or anxiety or something medical that needs to be accessed by proper medical authorities. That is a possibility. But… Don’t use that as an excuse.
A Little Bit Of Hard Truth
Procrastination is a habit. A habit of putting of until tomorrow what you can get done today. It is also a part of that instant gratification problem. I do the hard work tomorrow so I can have fun today.
Then there is the other one. Simply being lazy. Now, there is another habit. If I do that tomorrow, I can play my video games today.
All this is a cycle that is created by actions or I should say Lack of Actions. I know these are not words you like to read. They are truths one must look at and decide if we fit into these categories.
The simple truth is there is a reason we procrastinate. As soon as we figure it out, we will be able to move forward in ways we only dream of.
Being someone that gets things done leaves us with an incredible sense of accomplishment. The ability to create whatever we want in life is an ability we nurture within ourselves.
Take pride in yourself. Be a doer. When you look at that list of things to do, follow it. Number one then number two and so on. Organize the list in such a way where one leads to the next.
If you need to pick up bread, make the next thing on the list something you have to do while in town. You know the old saying ‘kill two birds with one stone’. I am pretty sure everyone already knows all this stuff. Sometimes we simply need a boot to get our feet in motion.
If you need to change the oil on your car, let the next step be something that can get done while you wait such as pay bills on line from the app on your phone. Maybe you need to send notices to someone, do it while you wait. You could simply work on your list for tomorrow. No, I don’t mean copy the list of today for tomorrow. Remember, we are accomplishing our goals.
Be a Doer. Start your day with something that is going to motivate you to move. A shower, a cup of coffee, breakfast, and a brisk walk.
Take a minute to gift yourself with something that pleases you. A reward for getting out of the house or wherever you have to go or do.
Life Is A Series Of Habits
Like the rock thrown in the pond that creates a ripple, our habits are that ripple.
The big kicker is this is true. Everything we do, we do out of habit. Think about it. Look at the activities you do during the course of your day. How many things do you do that you have done thousands of times before. How many of those things do you do almost without thinking.
I has a ripple effect. Our habits have consequences – good or bad. They all lead to an end game.
If life is a series of habits, then they can be altered to benefit us in some way. A habit can be created by doing something several times until it becomes second nature. So, a bad habit can be recreated by doing the good habit until it is second nature. Like quitting smoking. Going for a walk. Eating healthier food. Cutting down on sugar. Reinventing Yourself!
From Comfort To More
I can step out on the deep end here say that chances are you are living a life you did not choose – for the most part. Let me explain…
- You are working in a job because of the pay – not because it is what you want to do.
- You feel kind of stuck where you are because the bank account is not big enough to allow you the time to change your plan.
- You wish you had more time to do the things you love to do.
- You wish you had more time to spend with your family/friends/partner.
- You do not believe in yourself enough to take the needed steps to change your situation.
- You do not believe in yourself enough to know you would be at success at something different.
Sound about right? I could go on but I think you get the point. Well, this website is filled with information that can help you look at life from a different perspective. I work diligently to get people to look ‘outside’ the box or to see the cup as half full instead of half empty.
